Sometimes the Idea of Your Home Being changed is Scary
Just knowing what will happen with your home and how everything will be done can be a beneficial step in feeling more comfortable with your renovation. So, we'll go over the physical side of things that actually happen with your home. You can see it's not as bad as you might think, and it can help you plan for the different phases.
Design Phase
This is really where the whole plan comes together. If you don't properly plan, the entire remodel will be tough. In this phase, you can virtually see your home transform and what the end product will look like. At Avocet Design, we have a design team to get your project correct and show you how everything will look! No matter who you pick to do your work, just be sure to see your home how you want it before you start.
Removal & Demo
This can be the most cathartic stage or, sometimes, the scariest! This is where the old floors, walls, fixtures, etc., are removed. You will have things to rip up if you're not just building an entirely new structure. So, don't get worried, as this is the first step to a new home! Keep in mind this is generally one of the fastest phases, so it shouldn't hurt too bad.
Structural
Next up, once the demo is done, you have to build out the new structural pieces. This includes things like new walls, outbuildings, and even sometimes shoring up what you already have. This stage often excites people about the project, as this goes quickly and makes significant changes to your home. This is generally a carpentry stage and, again, seems very fast.
Plumbing, Electric, and Drywall
This is where things slow down just a little, at least in most people's eyes. This is when things happen behind the scenes and more in the walls, so don't worry if you feel like things aren't moving fast here. However, once you get to drywall, things should move fast then.
Carpentry
Once the finer carpentry starts happening, you know you're getting near the end. This is also a finesse stage where things like trim, cabinets, etc., get done. Again, considering this is a finesse stage, it will appear to be going slower than you might want. However, once this stage starts, you should really start to see the job coming together.
Painting
Other than touch-ups, this is really the final stage. Depending on how in-depth your painting need is, this should be a reasonably fast stage. However, don't try to rush back into everyday life. You can make things much harder.
