Project Spotlight: Farmhouse Fun
This season’s project spotlight features a charming farmhouse-inspired expansion for the Fitzgerald family, who live on a picturesque county road outside Wilmington. As their family grows, they sought to expand their home to better suit their evolving needs.
Avocet collaborated closely with Catherine & Rick to design a two-story addition that complements their existing home. The first level includes a functional mudroom/laundry area with dark gray tile flooring and floating shelves, plus a bedroom for their teenage child. The landing area integrates seamlessly into a new kids' playroom.
Upstairs, the couple enjoys a spacious bedroom with scenic views and custom shiplap woodwork. The luxurious farmhouse-style bathroom features a soaking tub, walk-in shower, and ample closet space. The addition also includes revamped front steps, a new gable, and a refreshed roof and siding, highlighting the farmhouse aesthetic with white siding and black accents.
The Fitzgerald family’s love for the country and warm personality truly embody the farmhouse spirit. It was a pleasure for Avocet to bring their vision to life!

The Fitzgerald family, living on a peaceful county road outside Wilmington, had long envisioned expanding their beloved farmhouse to match their growing family. With their children entering their teenage years, Catherine and Rick Fitzgerald dreamed of creating spaces that would evolve with their lifestyle while embracing the rustic charm of their property.
